Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best players around the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world may be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player.
