[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
