Omaha Hi/Lo: General Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi-low begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have either called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players can get confused. Unlike Hold’em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use exactly three cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost every poker game.

A lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the high hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem difficult at the start, following a few rounds you will be able to get the basic subtleties of the game easily enough. Since you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi/low offers an amazing collection of betting choices and because you have several individuals trying for the high hand, as well as several battling for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha hi-low.
