Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players in the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard about.
