NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
