No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
