NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
