Omaha Hi/Low: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in popularity so quickly.
Omaha/8 starts like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in just about all poker games.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
Although it seems complex initially, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an exciting range of betting choices and seeing that you have several players trying for the high hand, and several battling for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
