Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While participating in online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of before.
