No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
